I usually have a large sump (ie. 75g or 90g wide) and have a large section in my sumps just for extra live rock. I store an extra 30-50 lbs of LR in there which frees up more swimming space for my fish. So if it works for you, then lots of LR is fine & healthy for your tank.

As long as there is good water flow around the rock (don't lean it on the side/back glass panes) then you can put however much you want in there. I like a minimalist look...I have about 70 lbs in my 90.

My new setup has a 90 Gallon sump that is purely dedicated and filled with live rock, then i'm going the minimalist look in the display tank, but definitly the more rock the better. Great for biological filtration.

Sounds like the "more the better" vote wins, and I dont think I have a problem with flow, I tried shooting some blood worms and mysis to the back of the tank, behind the rock for my mandarin and it all got pushed right back up over and over again... I may have to make a diner for the mandarins to get them a few bites to eat.
