Got to check out everything today with Martin and I must say it all looks very sweet. Make the DIY LEDs look very easy and affordable for all sizes of tanks. Well done Martin well done indeed.

Welcome as a vendor. Nice setups you have. Really makes me want try these. So for a 7'x2'x2', what do you recommend?

Hi Shane, I think I just sent a quote to your email address, if that was not you let me know and I can amend. Awesome tank size, do you have any pictures?

Martin

I was wondering if you were going to be getting the Cree XP-G Cool White bulbs? I can only find Cree XP-E bulbs on your site.

Also, do you carry acrylic shields to protect the LED boards?

Lastly, if you have a Neptune Apex controller, do you even need dimmers, or does the Apex controller do that for you?

Hey, currently we dont have XP-G. We are trying to decide on what to bring in next. The new XP-E HEW line is actually the same as XP-G only with less power consumption so we are leaning toward that. I heard a lot of stories of XP-G being too bright and people running them dimmed down, that why I went with XP-E initially. I still keep my XP-Es dimmed down to about 90% over my tank, otherwise the corals lay down flat to try and get away from it.

Those XP-E HEW are going to be cheaper too since they are brand new.

We dont carry acrylic sheets however you can get pretty much any size you want at Rona in Red Deer.

For Neptune Apex controller no you do not need dimmers it will dim the drivers for you and control sunrise and sunset etc.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Martin

Thanks for the feedback. I see that the new LED systems are coming out with some different colored LED's in them. Is there any chance you are getting any different colors in?

If there is enough demand for a colored module perhaps one green and one red we could definitely do that.

However 99% of the DIY builds out there are using only whites and blues and getting great results.

I have only seen one commercial fixture so far with colors in it by default, the aqua beam ones. Even the Vertex Illumination has only white and blue with optional color add ons that you can get later. I spoke to a few guys who have that and got the extra colors, they said it didn't make any difference really. There was a slight difference in tank color but no difference in growth.

I designed this system based on LED fixtures that worked for me in the past. I am getting amazing growth and color from the Cool Whites and Royal Blues so that is why those are currently the only ones we stock.
