Start with the basics, bulbs, connections, grounds, conuniutity from switches to the bulbs, power at the connectors, seeing the age i would check the resistance in the wiring also could have some corrosion issues. At least it should be an easy system no ecms or anything.

we have determined the signals to be a switch issue so im ordering one tomorrow , and it got too dark to work on the tail light so thats tomorrows project

Signal switches are usually the culprit, it was my issue on my 2000 Magna that I also have. Fairly easy fix, tail light should be simple to find if you found the signal problem this fast. Nice job Dennis
