You didn't catch the snail in the act? It would take a few days for a snail to do that artwork, wouldn't it?

Apparently not because when the lights went out the night before there was no eggs and then the next day when the lights came on there was all those eggs. Unfortunately I didn't see the artist in the act

That's what I thought too. I figured my red corris or sixline wrasse or one of my tangs or foxface would for sure eat the eggs, but they are still there on the glass.
