	Here's a picture of the tank and you can see the piece of rock that I have cleaned with boiling water. 			 They look to me like sponges... They are fine.. try not to hurt them too much as they could release toxins into the water. But I am sure someone else will chime in and have more info. I like sponges too cause they help clean the water...
