I prefer the Algae Free brand as well over mag floats, they are stronger and work better plus have replaceable pads which I believe is key. But either way starphire can be treated like regular glass, it just costs more and it's a little softer so you'll want to be a little more careful but typically if something scratches starphire it probably would have scratched regular float as well.

Mag Float used here as well, no problems.

I just cleaned my starphire for the first time last night, I didnt want to scratch it too but only had an old mag float. I wraped it on the inside with some filter floss and a clean cloth on the outside. worked perfect and i'll continue to use it this way in the future.
