Based on how this thread is going so far, I think it might be a good idea if you do this with someone on hand that has some experience with electricity. It's a little dicey trying to provide safe advice regarding the hookup of this nature without some photos & more details on how this rig looks at the moment, even if it is a low voltage DC job. Electrical tape is not the best way to connect wiring.

For sure. It really needs to be soldered. If you're not handy with that type of stuff, you may want to ask around.

Mar connectors are also very safe.. I've used them on all my fan wiring jobs.
