Brad - I put grey, poly-style underlay in my sump under my return pump. 2 years and is not showing any signs of breaking down. Got it from Home Depot.

A clean tea towel folded over a few times and placed under will work good for now until you can find something more permanent

I just put a piece of fairly thin styrofoam under mine. I think it was previously a styro fish box lid

I have seen mouse pads made of wetsuit material. neoprene

I cut up the sponge from a mag drive pump put it under works great

I used a piece of filtration foam and used plastic ties

Also you could use foam, the same stuff you use between your tanks and stand.
