Jeez! I don't know. I'm already a half-wit. Might only take one nostril to put me on the floor.

I have glued my last fitting, double checked everything and fired up with no harm to fish and corals. I wouldn't worry about it all.. The tank volume would dilute it and I'm sure your running carbon. If you drop the whole can in tho... Totally different story lol

OK, I'm feeling better about it. And I won't drop the can in the tank.

Finally managed to get a short video of the Kole trying another of his ploys: He swims around and around the rocks pretending to ignore the Chromis and the eggs. When the Chromis is looking the other way he swoops in and trys to grab some eggs. The Chromis and eggs are just above and to the right. click on the photo

What a jackass. A smart jackass. He must do that when he takes his 5 min daily break from grazing.

So, ever since Christy's posts regarding her using sodium hydroxide for pest eradication I've been wanting to try some myself. Today I acquired some from a friend and I have to say: "This Stuff is Awesome!!!" For the first attempt I only used about 5 ml in a syringe. Turned off all the pumps and proceeded to absolutely nuke a patch of Majanos that was bothering my Caulastrea. They pretty much melt on contact. It was so much fun I was giddy. I felt like Darth Vader with his light saber cutting a swath of destruction before me. I can't wait to try it again: Die you Majanos, and Aiptasia, and stupid Palys, and Fugly mushrooms and nuisance algae! Die!

Any idea where a person without friends with sodium hydroxide can get some? I mean, I shouldn't assume my friends do or don't, but I can't really see a good way to lead into the question "Hey, we should go for beer and wings .. heyyyyy, got any sodium hydroxide by chance?"

As far as I know Tony you can only get it from chemical supply outlets. Maybe you can order it on-line, I don't know. I looked at our plumbing supply store for some pure stuff, but it seems to all be mixed with other chemicals and I wouldn't trust it in an aquarium. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Today I tried the sodium hydroxide on a colony of Palythoas that has been a PITA for years. Turned off the pumps and using a hypodermic I squirted a smallish area, (about the size of a toonie), left the stuff alone for about 5 minutes and then siphoned up the precipitate. The Palys are absolutely gone and the rock is totally bare. Not a thing on it: totally nuked. I love this stuff! No more Joe's Juice, lemon juice, kalk paste or any of those other remedies that only half-assed work. This stuff is the real deal people!
Tommorow's Mission: A few Aiptasia in the 90g and some more majanos in the 225g.

Where did you get it? Or is this something common with a common name and I'm just clueless?
