easier to stack (glued) 2x4s together, still can run 2x6 around the sides

I vote for 2x4's, way easier, just as strong and cheaper too.

I build my stands with doubled up 1" ply, far more dimensionally stable than 2x4 (whens the last time you seen a perfectly straight 2x4) glass tanks are not very forgiving and it wont take much over 8' to cause problems. I suck at drawings but page 7 has pics of the platform for the 750, checked with a laser level it is within 1/32" at all four corners. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...t=55914&page=7

u are saying that your legs are 2" of ply wood in stead of 2x4's

That was a temp wall while waiting on the welded tubular steel ones, the platform that the tank sits on is doubled up 1" and is 6" thick, it has cross pieces every 8", kinda overkill but it is a 8'x5' tank and weighs in at 7500lbs so I figured more was better

yep, simpler to cut different lengths than dadoing all the uprights

So I'm adding up the 2x4's and around the perimeter am I only using 1 2x4 around the out side.
