Default Mag 7 Question

Hi, I have a Mag 7 that I am currently using in an external closed loop with a SQWD water rotating device. my question is how hot do these pumps normally run? I can't keep my hand on the pump housing for more than 4-5 seconds as it is too hot! Is this normal for a Mag pump?

Dave, the only external pump I have is a MAG 2, and it doesn't hardly get warm. I would say it shouldn't get that hot.

Thanks Brad, I didn't think that it should be that hot. I have never owned a Mag pump before so I wasn't sure. I will take it apart and see what's up!

Is the input restricted at all? Any number of 90 degree bends or lifting, and what size is the pipe on the intake side of the pump?

Hi Delphinus, I am using 1" pipe but it is restricted to 3/4 due to the SQWD being inline. The head height is about 2 feet and there are quite a few 90's. Here is a diagram:

I have a Mag12 as a return and a Mag5 on my CA reactor and they are both cool to the touch.
