Looking around today on the net, I've notice lot's of comments like that...makes me think it's a good buy...

What I'm thinking of doing, is breaking it in, in a new sump, not hooked up to the display tank and cycling around a 100-150lbs of new rock for a month or two...would that work, or should I put it on the main tank, and put my other skimmer in the new sump?

Thanks for the help guys, can't wait to start a true, and new build thread on this tank...just haven't figured out a tank size yet, or where the hell we're going to put it...lol

What my comments and all the other comments are getting at is that the same company makes both BK and Vertex Alpha Cones: Royal Exclusiv.

So at their price point the Alpha Cones are great buys.

I got 250 model just couple of days ago and it already works hard. Virtually no setup was required and dialling was a breeze. I'm really blown away by how quite this monster is. Very happy with the purchase.

I've got the 250. Awesome skimmer. After playing around and reading on the net it runs the best in 10" of water. I overfeed and it pulls out about 3-4 cups of the most putrid smelling crap every two days. It actually stinks up my basement if I leave it longer than that. My wife thinks it's the cats litter box but I don't say anything. No need for a break in for me. I noticed that Blue World Aquariums in Victoria was running them on all of there store tanks. Worth the money.

When I empty my skimmer, the wife and son start dry heaving and run out of the house...I guess that mean's the things working right?

Thanks for the info guys, I'm sold on the Alpha...
