Well carbon will work a lot with water clarity. Coral snow dose daily and water is crystal clear after.

I think marine snow is coral food as well but coral snow seems to clean the water.

 can you get coral snow in edmonton or do you need to order , i could find marine snow in places but i havent seen coral snow like the one from the link

Marina Aquaria has some i recommend only buying small bottles as it turns thick after a while.
