Default Portable DVD player

My wife wants to get a portable DVD player for road trips to keep the kiddos entertained. I know nothing about these and have been using the google for the past hour. Thought I would throw a post up here and ask for some advice. The only thing we would like for sure is dual screens to mount on the back of the headrests.

Anyone have any suggestions/experience with these contraptions?!?

We do this. They are essentially disposable. Wait for a sale, get something for $50.00 to $60.00, don't bother about a name brand. You can get a splitter to plug two sets of headphones into one DVD player. Then buy cheap headphones from the dollar store. Buy some DVD's and don't let them watch the DVD's until the trip. Also we bring a large orange Halloween bucket which is used as a barf bucket.

Canadian Tire always has two screen models on sale. We bought a set 3 years ago and have never had any problems with the unit. All the cords are a little messy but at 1/10 the price of a cheap built in roof unit it's worth a few cords hanging around., and it keeps the kids quiet.

First one I bought for the kid was ~$400, got pretty much the some one last year for $49 at Wal-mart. Both were single screen but could rotate around and put in a case with straps for the head rest. Moral here, go cheap like trilinearmipmap said. Also good advise was get new movies.

Now what I did for myself, though do let the kid use it, was got a cheap netbook. 8 hour plus battery life, don't need to convert movies to DVD that you get from bittorrent and the 250g drive (plus 16g SD cards) holds a whole lot of them.

Tell them to look out a window, sheesh! What the hell did we do when we were kids?

With the parents up front smoking and me jumping around in the back area of the station wagon with the brother and dog, times have changed.

Remember my father getting so ****ed at us kids as we played in the station wagon and read comic books during vacation trips. "Look out the damn window and see the sights and scenery"
