![]() Ok I just got the Lumenmax Elite hung. It's so ghetto with like tie-wraps and stuff. This bulb looks unreal to me. I actually don't think the 150w ballast I previously had (case looked homemade and had no labels but was magnetic) was hqi (m81) as this 250w on the m80 fluoresces like MAD! Spread is also insane compared to the disco ball. I'm seeing parts of corals and rock I never saw before. Some corals are already showing more polyp extension or some where there never was any.
Two problems now. 1) I need to build a 3-sided open top canopy to wrap around the tank because you can't sit on the couch anymore without getting BLASTED. 2) my poor azoo 4-fan unit HAS NOT SHUT OFF since it first came on. It seems to be holding things at 80 but it can't get the tank back to 79 and it's been nearly 20 min. This won't get any better when a canopy is on. I do plan to cut vent slits in the front to allow flow out the front but still... So anyone have a used chiller they want to sell? DAAAAMN! |

![]() Tank had already had a full day's light when I hung the pig. Didn't wanna blast the tank for too long. Pics tomorrow maybe. More likely AFTER I make my canopy!
I think if I get another fan and have it aimed UP so it's moving air across the bulb and away from the tank it will help. Tomorrow I'll pickup a nice quiet fan that will run whenever the light is on. Any recommendations? |

![]() The tank is looking really good. It looks way bigger then 34g... I believe the 1/4" mesh would stop the fish from jumping... the really small fish may be able to fit through but it would be hard for there aim to be that good... it's not that easy to jump into small holes

![]() Thanks. Yeah unbelievably a bangaii I had bought also jumped. I give up on new fish until I have a canopy made.
The canopy will fix my issue with this new light blinding everyone in the room. My other issue is the intense heat. My fan unit can't cope with it and I took a stab at the bar fridge chiller today before failing...and then reading more online and finding that they don't really work for ANYONE. So the good news is I have line plumbed into my basement for a chiller but I don't want to buy one. Tomorrow I will raise the light a few more inches, replace the 4-fan azoo unit with a pair of larger clip-ons and assemble a skirt with ventilation slits for the top of the tank. If it's still too hot then perhaps I will be forced to invest. My fans come on at 80. They actually can hold the tank at 80 for more than an hour but they can't bring it back to my desired 79. I don't want them running all day and I also don't know if over longer periods/hotter days it will climb higher. I did mount the fridge over the stairs next to my topup bucket tho. It sure looks sexy haha! But before anyone asks for a ghetto shot...I moved the bucket to the other side of the wall so they're both out of the way lol. |
