![]() I have been using egg crate for about a year and it works very well. Tried glass lids, and my tank heated too much and almost lost everything after 1 day with the glass lid on.
Egg Crate is cheap and holds up VERY well. Even with 2 x 250W Metal Halide lights only inches away, I have yet to see any melting or noticable warpage of it. |

![]() Putting a glass lid on a salt water tank greatly inhibits the necessary gas exchange that takes place at the waters surface.
Egg crate or screen is a much better method, with egg crate being the one to allow better air and light access to the tank. |
