That's cool, I have the exact same tank and stand. Love to see what you do with it. Definitely be following what you are doing, I need all the ideas I can muster.

Well day 7 of the cycle, the dry rock seems to be getting a little darker. Still running no skimmer, but im notcing a lot of little floaties. Nothing really exciting yet.
 specific gravity 1.025 nitrite 0ppm nitrate 0ppm ph 7.9 ammonia 0ppm

Update!!
We we got sick and tired of waiting for our small amount of live rock to seed our dry rock so we picked up 32lbs of live rock today. Currently have 42lbs of live rock and 30lbs of dry rock. The cycle was taking way to long, so hoping this speeds things up a bit. Here are some pics. Not sure if its how we will be keeping the rock as we just put in the tank and played a bit with it. Feedback always welcome. Thanks Kevin & Nicole

well its seems like it has been cycling for ever and still haven't noticed any changed. wtf is going on???
