![]() Here are some SLR photos of the rimless setup. The system has been running for one month and everything is still quite stable. However I have had trouble keeping Calcium and dKH up as the larger volume of water volume necessitated an increase in routine doses. I have noticed wisps of algae on the glass and a bit of diatom algae on the sand bed which leads me to believe the aquarium is already producing nitrate again. Because I kept all of the rock 100% submerged in the transfer from the old tank the bacteria survived the move which may have minimized the cycle period. Not sure yet but due to the algae showing up but I think the system may be in the clear as far as re-cycles go.
I will post pics soon of the sump details. Also I just bought a Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor and am running ROWA this should help keep the system at extremely low nutrient levels. I have also recently begun dosing tiny amounts of Vodka started at 0.3ml and am up to (0.9 ml) daily as per reccomendation from this article. This will be combined with MB7 for an Ultra Low Nutrient System. However this means I will most likely have to turn of the ROWAphos and get rid of the cheato in my fuge. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Equipment Protien Skimmer: Vertex IN-100 Lighting: 250 watt Double Ended Metal Halide Lamp Ballast: Ice Cap 250 Watt Electronic Ballast Bulb: 250 Geissman 20k DE Megachrome Blue Fuge Lighting: Jebo T5 Bulbs Heater: 2x Eheim JAGER 150 Watt Heater Water Motion: Eco-Tech Vortech MP10, Nano Koralia, Mag 9.5 Return Pump (7 ft. lift) Filter Media: ROWAphos and Carbon/Zeolite Mix in a Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor, 1 Unit Chemi-Pure Elite, Filter Floss ATO: D.I.Y. auto top of using a TOM Aqua lifter, a float valve and a 40g Rubbermaid bin. ![]() Here are some shots of the plumbing from tank to basement.
![]() The overflow features a silent Stockman standpipe and is plumbed through the floor into the basement sump room making the reef virtually silent. ![]() ![]() All the plumbing is one either 1" rigid IPEX pipe or braided 1" Flex Tubing. Ball valves are used to regulate flow to and from the system. ![]() At the sump a "T" joint is used to split the flow. 60% goes into the main skimmer heating and Phosban chambers 40% goes into the fuge this ratio is regulated by another ball valve. A Mag 9.5 return pump moves the water from the sump up about 7' to the dual adjustable returns. |

![]() What camera did you shoot the video with?
Also, since you're already defending the term "rimless" - "cube" implies 3 dimensions measurement the same. What you have there is a rectangular prism. It is a very nice rectangular prism though. ![]() Just kidding BTW, don't worry about it. (Although .. MY tank is an "actual cube" at 30x30x30. So there! ![]() ![]()

Everyone is getting technical now eh. There is something about "AJ's 47 gallon trimless rectanglular prism" that just doesn't have a ring to it. |

![]() Well I have been dosing vodka for almost a month now and I have also begun dosing Brightwell aquatics MicroBacter7. The sps frags are getting pretty colorful. Sorry for the poor quality photos. They're all cropped and digitally zoomed, I will take more with better a DSLR soon.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also I also just added a few new zoa frags. Again sorry for the poor photos I will take better ones soon. Heres a look at some of the new rarer frags and their names. ![]() Purple Death Paly ![]() Single head of Hells Angels ![]() Nuclear Blues ![]() Radioactive Dragon Eye Already had the next two but here's them with their names according to coralpedia. ![]() Ked Red ![]() Blue Hex and Safe Crackers Last edited by AJ_Tsin; 03-08-2010 at 06:30 PM. |
