You could look at this acer which is a little bigger at 11.6" and a little pricer than the average netbook but it's just as portable, has a full size keyboard, better resolution + HD, 4gigs of ram, 320gig hd, and other features you won't find on a netbook.

I love my 8.9" hp netbook. I just accept what it can and can't do. It only has a 16 gig solid state but that speeds it up a bit.

I use it on trips to surf the net, check email ect. You can watch non high def movies too. I also use it outside for astronomy star maps, and to image the planets with a modified webcam. Works good for that even when it's -15

It will never replace a main pc be it a desktop or another laptop but when only limited resources are needed for certain tasks its perfect. I remember when sub notebooks came out like 10 years ago I thought they were the coolest thing. Funny it took them this long to catch on.

I also run a computer consulting firm, Desktops, Laptops, netbooks all have their purpose.

I personally use a 9" Acer on my last vacation, and found it quite handy as it went everywhere with me in my camera bag. I was able to do everything my 15" Laptop did and more. Made it ease to look at photos than a 3" screen.

Even at home I use my netbook more than my Laptop, less bulky to deal with.

For just spreadsheets and such, depending on the size of the screen you need is what size you get. Found that the netbook was a bit more ackward to use when looking a fish lists and such.

Convience or screen size is the important thing you should look at.

Ken

I guess this 11.6" one is overkill?

picked up a Asus Eee 1005PE this afternoon.

Haven't tried on the Asus yet but did go through the checklist (Excel spreadsheets) on a 10" Toshiba, seemed find.

Yeah love everything except the trackpad which doesn't work too well (for me anyway) but I prefer a small wireless BT mouse so to me, not a huge deal. HDMI out is sweet and puts out full HD. LED backlit monitor and it's pretty powerful for the size, it's definitely not a netbook.
