I've ran a lot of Danner Mag Drive pumps (currently using 3.5, 5, 7, 9.5, and a 12) and wouldnt recommend them anymore. The impellers have a way of magically breaking, two of my pumps I have to hit to get them to start running and anything above a mag 9.5 is really loud. So my vote is for Eheim and Quiet One as they are the only other two submersibles I've had experience with.

Haven't you even pressed the little rubber priming button on a lawn mower before pulling the cord? It means the pump cant suck air.

my 2 cents:
If you can get the Red Dragon, Get it. IF not, but you can afford the eheim, get it. IF not, then get the Quietone or Sedra.

Usually the neg feedback on Mags is just the noise. Like someone else said on the forum here, they are very reliable. I previously tried Sedra's and I had three in a row seize within their first two weeks of operation. I gave up on them completely.

They are good pumps but I find they produce more heat and are noisier than the Eheim. On the flip side they are considerably cheaper though.

Had a quiet one and couldn't get rid of it fast enough as it was nothing but trouble and loud. Picked up an ehiem and could not be happier
