Its just another canned title to make someone feel far superior to there peers. Seems like it has more todo with money spent then anything else.

advanced aquarist? That is a really old guy that keeps and aquarium...

"Fred was an advanced aquarist until the nursing home took away his tank."

Well you can't stay a noob forever. I think we're all advanced aquarists, hell we're learning all sort of things about this hobby every day so I'd call that advancing towards...something

Now the term expert aquarist, that says ego to me

just remember your not an "advanced aquarist" unless your internet reputation is big. just another newb

i hate the internet but forums are addicting

edit...

sorry forgot some other concepts

unless you have a 100+ gal tank (preferably over 200gal) or you have a killer camera and can capture great shots of your livestock

not to sound bitter but after talking to a few people i wanted to kick them in the balls for how they talked to me because i wasn't up to par with their standards. but thats how it is on every forum, unless you make a name for yourself post whoring your a a nobody

I'm not so sure about that :-) Every time I turn around it seems like this hobby has made some changes. New technologies, new methodologies, etc. There was a time when we didn't use skimmers. Now we use skimmers that are cone shaped because cones are cool? From Calcium reactors to Calcium dosing ? All those ULNS methods ? BioPellets ? Now LED lights are all the rage ? I have been in the hobby for 7 or 8 years and I still feel like a noob Although, I think I still have some pennies left that I could poor into this hobby so I may have some hope of becoming an advanced aquarist one day. I'm dreaming big!

Just putting this out there: perhaps it is how many advances you make with fellow hobbyists!
