External overflows?

Are external overflows reliable? Easy to use and install? Anyones experience would help. Thanks.

They are great, less real estate taken up in the tank. I would think the most difficult part of the install would be notching out the glass. If it is a new tank getting built I would go with it externally.

The only drawback in my mind is it eats up at least half a foot of your room by pushing the tank from the wall. If I had my tank in the basement and it wasn't in-wall I'd have recessed the overflow into a wall maybe with access from the other side.

This is the overflow I'm talking about. The tank i want to put it on is tempered glass, so a built external overflow is not an option.... yet.

if your going to go with an external overflow box get a life reef. I ran one for years with never a problem. I just happen to have one for sale too!

have one running (CS150) on my 125 and i love it. I have it running off the side of the tank.
