Default How 'bout this setup for a neophyte?

OK, so I finally have my wife thinking about allowing a new saltwater tank in the house, and now it is time to consider what to get. I have been keeping a 33 gal. freshwater tank for over 4 years now with no real troubles (unless you count the cat that knocked the return line off and let the water go all over the floor...no casualties though). I have been considering a corner tank since that is the perfect spot in the new house we just moved into, it would be the focus of the room. Through surfing the net, I came across the Tenecor pentagonal tanks (70 gal.). I really like the shape, and was intrigued by their reef ready system. Anyone have any opinions on this as a first setup. I liked the setup with the Berlin skimmer plumbed into the sump and all neatly housed under the stand. Here it is on their site: http://www.tenecor.com/pentagon.php

So now the question I guess is would this be recomended to an absolute newbie, or am I way off in left field. Your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

It looks like a nice product. I think I'd get some help from the members here in designing your filtration system though. I'd imagine you'll pay through the nose for the one they offer. I couldn't find a price for it but judging some of the other prices I see you'd be better off doing it yourself.

You can find several types of glass corner tanks at most larger aquarium dealers. Perhaps have a look at some of them also.

and Welcome to Canreef

I have what Tenecor calls a flat back hex (different make though), love my tank but the corners are a little annoying. If I was to get a corner tank, would be looking towards the quarter circle type.

I agree, they look very nice. I looked long and hard at a corner tank, but didn't like the distortion of the quarter-rounds. If these are as clear and distortion-free as they say, you'll have the makings of a beautiful setup.

Keep in mind the challenges of putting reef lighting over these types of tanks. People often go with MH pendants, and with the 70 having more depth than width you would need significant wattage to penetrate 30" of water. And then there's the heat produced by a 400W pendant...

I think the 95 has the nicer dimensions/proportions, or even the 50.
