![]() Hi gang,
For some reason over the past few days, I have been starting to get a brownish algae growth on my sand bed, it is almost always covered in air bubbles as well. I'm not sure if this would be known as a diatom bloom? I have just cut my photo period down by an hour to see if it helps. I have not changed my feeding pattern at all, but my RO/DI reservoir water is reading around 12ppm (Just ordered new filters). Any thoughts, will this be harmful to my system? Thanks, Rob |

![]() I have a similar/same algae and after using a PO4 sponge (Kent), it appears to have subsided.

![]() Thanks Brad, I'll give it a shot. I generally rotate any media (Carbon/Phosphate sponge). Right now I have the carbon in, I'll change it tonight to see if it helps.
Do you run your PH sponge 24/7? Rob |

![]() Rob, the Kent PO4 sponge should be removed after a few days. Also, if you use it, read the instructions about pre-rinsing

![]() hmm, thanks Brad.
I thought that I was using the Kent variety, and I am definitely pre-rinsing, but I thought that the directions mentioned that it caould be left full time with 1 cup changes every week or so? |
