Laurie, I can't honestly say how much it helps. I manage to keep nitrates down in this tank to about 5 ppm, but I can't tell how much from the Nitrate Destroyer, the water changes or the nitrate sponge. I CAN tell you that since I began using the T.A., the sponge, and more frequent water changes, the nitrates were consistently at 10 ppm; so at least one of the three is working.

It was a frogspawn attack

When the pumps get shut off the tentacles can travel a long, long way

Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Sprung a leak in the return line.
I think the vibration of the pump has broken the glue seal around the flex hose where it fits into a true union. I closed the gate valves from the overflow and drained the return section of the sump to allow it to dry out overnight and will fix it tomorrow after work. Any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again. Should I replace the flex with PVC? Will a glued PVC joint hold up to the vibration better than a glued flex to PVC joint? The pump is a Reeflo Barracuda and vibrates pretty good. Or maybe there is some sort of sealant that I can seal around the glue joint?

I use one of those plumbing boots they use when joining different material (ie: cast to abs etc.) Also helps to cut down on the noise from vibration, Petes has quite a selection in stock, if you need a hand give me a call.
