Another thing to worry about when covering a tank with glass is poor "gas exchange"....look for nylon "chicken wire" that they use to keep birds out of your garden. You just need to make a frame either out of wood or wire and attach the "chicken wire" to it....blocks out very little light....and keeps your critters in....so Ive been told anyway

eggcrate is what i got on all my tanks
works great you could look at Rona,Home Depot,i get mine at Totem (http://www.totem.ca/product.aspx) hope that helps Andrew

I used plastic screen for like the screen door on your house.
I placed it over my lights and cut pieces on the back to fit around my wires and pipes and used those big paper clips to help weight down the front.
