1025 @ 79F
I use a drip method for my top off - holding tank is above the sump and drip it in at a steady rate with airline tubing. It takes a few days to figure out what rate to have it at, and there is some variation depending on how hot the day is. It is not as good as an ATO, but it works for me and no danger of malfunctioning float valves and pouring fresh water into the tank causing a sudden drop in salinity, I have read a few threads about that happening.

sorry, the temp is also 79 degrees f. I have my ac always down about 20c so my heater runs quite a bit in the summer, should be no problem when my new 250w MH arrives next week

Well, since my refracto is temperature compensated I just read it after 1 minute. My tank is at 35 ppt salinity (~1.026 SG), doesn't vary much since I'm diligent about topping off (and my tank is glass covered).

5 gallon jug? Or Bucket? I'm thinking that is a typo.. or is it?
1 gallon jug maybe?

I keep mine at 1.025 ... about 1 gallon every couple of days.. manually at this point.. figuring out an ATO system still..

Thanks for your reponses,

There were days last months extremely hot. I had the fan blowing in my 35 gallon tank to keep the temp down; resulting large amount of evaporation and increasing in the salinity. Fortunately, I was off work for those days and actively and manually top off with fresh water.

In the future, i might not be too lucky when I am at work. The salinity will creep up more than .002 .

Have you guys ever heard of large change in salinity the tank causing the corals and fishes to die?

no typo, its one of those 5 gallon water jugs from the store. My 40 gallon loses about 3 litres/day depending on how much my AC unit is running.Heave Ho!
