If its only 3" deep you could probably keep some SPS in it for a bit till they grow.... but i assume that is a typo @ 3" and its not an 8g tank 3 feet wide

Seriously though, you might be able to keep some zoas under that. But when you say single T5 do you mean 1 lamp?
