He is probably in the back chamber.
I had one living in my sump for months that went down my overflow before I saw him in there one day.
Shine a light down there as he is probably hiding under your pump of filters.

+1 My g/f has to dig her sixline outta there on a regular basis, and she has a mesh divider... regular magician that guy.

Yup have had many dive into the back before I got it blocked....be sure to check a few times before you give up fish can hide in there amazingly well

Found him. and he was hiding in the back. how are you blocking it so nothing jumps back there?

A lot of people use egg crate or you can buy a "fish saver" from www.mediabaskets.com . The egg crate should work pretty good and is a bunch cheaper then the ladder
