Hmm.. I asked his the same thing after seeing a piece he has that looks identical and he guessed it was a monti of some type..

Sorry you must have misunderstood me.
What I said was there was a LFS selling them as monti's when I bought mine but it's definately not a monti.
My guess is Echinopora lamellosa.
