Thanks for the replies. It is actually a Lacie unit, the one shown below:
http://www.lacie.com/ca/products/product.htm?pid=11062 I think it must be a problem with the hard drive itself or else it would of been a quick fix for Lacie. I know that data recovery is a costly process so i was just seeing if any one could help a canreefer out with some "recession pricing". Thanks, Steve

anyone know of a reputable and of course cheapest place for data recovery in bc? i am in the same predictament. my external hard drive failed and even when placed internally my bios does not reconize it although it does power up and spins (possible clicking sounds). this drive contains all of my family photos for the past number of years. i will spend the large $$$ if needed but if i can get it done for cheaper then why not. i'd rather have it done right the first time rather than a failed attempt and possibly losing the data

DREEF i should have the drive back by next week, still in a battle with Lacie. You will most likely have it in your hands by then. I appreciate your help. Thanks, Steve

Maple Oak Data recovery on pender does professional recovery, very pricey but you will get your data back. They charge by drive size regardless of amount of data stored on the drive, so if you have a 1 tb drive with 200 mb data it would cost you the same if the drive was full to recover.
I would advise ANYONE who stores family photos etc to buy a home RAID device. In the event one drive fails the other still has your data. This is the one I have: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=21719&...facture=D-Link  It's nifty!
