![]() I have a oceanrunner pump and am wondering how many people glue in the tube on the return end. If I don't glue it in, will it end up getting pushed out by the water pressure.

![]() I've had three Ocean Runner pumps and never glued the outlet. I was always using them submerged though not external.

![]() I'd probably glue it with a union for good measure, chances are you'll be OK without glue but what's the down side to gluing it?

![]() No way to adapt a threaded fitting to the outlet? If it's a concern, you could try some large vinyl tubing clamped over the outlet (if that's feasible, haven't seen one of these pumps), then stick a threaded pvc adapter with a barb fitting into the other side of the vinyl tubing.
Another option would be to simply glue a threaded adapter directly into the outlet. That will give you more flexibility with regard to plumbing rather than just gluing straight piping into the outlet.

![]() It is a threaded fitting that whiantegelbw is talking about they give you a few different sizes to match your plumbing. They are a slip fitting on the pump side.
The only downsides to not gluing it is being able to change size or if you stripped the threads.

![]() Yes, I had a look at the online manual. According to the OEM, the most efficient way to run the pump is to glue the slip fitting into the output. That would be my recommendation then, especially if running externally. You then have the threaded coupling to adapt to pretty much any other plumbing you choose - a union as sphelps recommended is a good thing. If you strip the threads somewhere along the line, you might be able to carefully drill out the glued portion, although looks like that would take a sizeable drill bit.
Even if using it submerged, relying on just a slip fit could spell disaster. If the hose/fitting pops out, depending on mounting orientation of the output, you could end up pumping water out of your sump onto the floor (or on to exposed electrical gear in the vicinity, yikes) and your display level would drop, pump then runs dry....etc. etc. These things have a way of happening when you're not around too.
