Default Perfect way to ruin a good day...

Coming home from Edmonton, roll through a stop sign, BAM, $287 ticket. There goes my fish budget for the next month.

Cr*p, Quinn We all had such a wonderful visit, too. Hope the crab's okay, though. Thanks for picking him up. I really appreciate you coming all that way for the little guy

I set the crab trap in a different location tonight. Hope I get some action. If I do, I'll keep at it until I catch all the beasts in the 42. I can set up the 2 gal hospital tank for them until the next time you come in. That is, if I actually catch any more

While I do agree that you should be ticked for failing to stop at a stop sign.. I have to question the amount of the ticket.. $287.00 for failing to stop at a stop sign.. thats harsh.

I think they just increased the amount. I was expecting maybe $100. I am going to call a lawyer, possibly plead not guilty and see if the cop even shows up at court. My dad says he sees cops roll through that intersection all the time, I'm almost tempted to go sit there for a day and watch with a video camera.

We got some new harsh rules here. Most accidents happen with "failing to stop" - this translates to running red lights mostly here in Calgary.
However, they included stop signs. Three second stop...

I had this happen once when I was going camping. It was about 2am and I had my nieces and GF in my car and I guess I didn't come to a "full and complete" stop. As I got about 10 meters after turning the cop turns on his lights.. I knew exactly why. but he was great and just let me go and told me to be careful.

Definitely go to court teevee, I've beaten a few tickets, even when the cop showed up. I would play more of the sympathy route before you say they do it too. That will just pi$$ them off. Unless of course your translation of "rolling" was a little faster.
Not to mention, in addition to the ticket I think they give you points on your license. Then they nail you again when you renew your license.
Another option is say you can't afford the ticket but would do community service. Pick a charity or non profit group you would support anyway. They may go for it. This way you keep your money get no points, benefit the community, and may even get to do something you enjoy. Just a thought.

Neat idea, the community service thing. I think I might try that as well as the "I'm a poor student" thing. I really don't know how fast I was going anymore, but if I say it was a rolling stop and force myself to believe it... plus the ticket was in Lacombe (Lacombe town police), and the court is in Red Deer (which has RCMP), and they have serious personel conflicts (I know this from when I got in an accident and the Lacombe and Red Deer cops were duking it out over who got to do the paperwork). Maybe I can play off that. We'll see.
