I think I convicted and sentenced my bi-color angel on a case of mistaken identity. My acans are still being eaten. Last week I lost my new alien eye favia frag and my "lord" acan frag. I have three suspects....flame angel, regal tang( who I have seen picking at another favia colony I have) or my pepermint shrimp. The flame and regal are staying...Im not getting rid of either of them, so my coral stocking plans will have to change. I have a line on a rainbow acan frag(my Holy Grail coral) that I will seriously have to think about passing on

I am also going through a serious macro algae, kelp type seaweed bloom. Its everywhere in the tank. I finally got a few hours off yesterday afternoon and used the time to remove the 2x24w HOT5 retrofit kit I had in my old frag tank canopy and installed it over the fuge area of my sump. Sooooo....I now have a functioning refugium Only a year after I started the tank The only bulbs I had were a fiji purp and a reef blue, so I will have to bring home a couple new bulbs and a handfull of cheato from the shop. Hopefully a good ball of cheato will make a dent in the algea that I have in the display. I also am going to step up my efforts to remove a couple more fish, in hopes of reducing the bio-load in the tank. My coral feeding has also been reduced.

Sorry to hear about the algae problem! Believe me when I say "I feel your pain" as I'm going through an algae war myself...first the red turf followed by a bad case of cyano. (thankfully I believe the tide is turning in my favor) I'm sure your in much better shape than me judging by your photos. Your tank still looks great to me!

Sounds like some middle of the night tank watching is in order to find your culprit. I think fish are like dogs and only misbehave when no one is watching, I'd swear mine all look as if saying "it wasn't me!" when I discover an entire colony has disapeared overnight

You sure your flame doesn't want a new home? I think my potter's would like a buddy

I have nobody to blame but myself for the algae problem....my efforts to keep everything well fed coupled with a high fish load = excess nutrients. If I cant remove the two fish I am hoping to remove, I may have to think about A BK skimmer or something similar. Hopefully a big ball o cheato will at the least keep the algae from spreading further.
I am really leaning towards my peppermint shrimp(s), as the culprits. Kevin and I watch the peps at the store attack a recently fragged acan.

You have no idea how long it took me "sharpie" in the green on that colony.
