Aqua Medic Niveaumat Auto Top Off:
A common mistake in the aquarium hobby is to run the output from an R/O filter directly to a mechanical float switch on the aquarium filter to compensate for evaporation. An R/O filter produces its best water quality when run for an extended period of time. Therefore the ideal top-off system begins with a reservoir that is filled periodically by an extended run of the R/O filter. Water is then pumped, via a peristaltic dosing pump such as the Aqua Medic SP3000, from the R/O reservoir into the aquarium filter “on-demand” as water evaporates. Obviously this type of top-off system requires a reliable level sensing system within the aquarium filter and a switching controller to operate the top-off pump to maintain the water level. The Aqua Medic Niveaumat is an excellent integrated solution that combines the SP 3000 dosing pump with a directly connected low-voltage float switch. Everything you need in one economical package.

R/O filters produce their highest quality water when run for extended periods. Use your R/O to fill and refill a dedicated reservoir from which the Niveaumat can pull, for on demand automated top-off to compensate for evaporation.

Clean the included solenoid float switch regularly to ensure proper operation.
For marine aquaria, placing a Kalkwasser Stirrer between the Niveaumat pump outlet and the drip counter, which is delivering the top-off water, creates an excellent source of calcium and alkalinity buffering hydroxide ions.

Using the included one-way check valve (always on the suction side) ensures positive progress of the fluid through the top-off system while eliminating back-siphoning.
Replace the persitaltic tube periodically, depending on severity of duty, to maintain performance.

whats the difference between the pendant mh versions of the space light and ocean light,
which has better relector? looks like space has shiny but ocean has olderstyle hammertone but bigger reflector? any suggestions as to the differnce in spread and intensity, and are the ballasts the same? need two of these pendants

In terms of light dispersion I honestly feel you will achieve similar results with either fixture. The Space Light EX is the newest lighting product line put out by Aqua Medic. We have had them both here in stock and the Space Light EX is a much nicer, sleeker and more modern looking fixture IMO.

Its not very often that cheaper and nicer fall into the same sentence but it is nice when they do

If you are looking for better light dispersion, then you will want the Lumen Bright reflectors but you will also find a decent price jump as the DE reflector alone if $185.

Plankton Reactor - Plankton Light Reactor

The importance of an appropriate feed web within a captive reef system has become clearer every year, as we better understand the complex ecosystem that we are all here to recreate. The prevalence of bottled plankton solutions for sale in this hobby is a testament to the understanding that photosynthetic corals are healthiest when they receive the natural balance of energy, both from light and from plankton predation. And in this new era of breeding marine fish in captivity, sources of appropriately sized and sufficiently high-quality food for newly hatched larvae and juvenile fish is proving to be the limiting factor for success. There is no substitute for fresh, high-quality plankton reared at home; never refrigerated, frozen or processed. Aqua Medic offers two solutions (most often run together) to develop your own quality phytoplankton and zooplankton cultures.

The Plankton Light Reactor is a 2.5 liter system for producing phytoplankton, the bottom rung on the food chain and an essential first stage culture for rearing larger zooplankton. The resultant micro algae can be fed directly to many filter-feeding invertebrates, offering a more consistently high quality food and at an enormous cost savings over using expensive, refrigerated, bottled solutions. The Plankton Light Reactor includes an 18 watt fluorescent light that, when teamed with a source of CO2 and a starter culture of phytoplankton, will ensure an impressive culture within days of set-up. Direct a portion of this phytoplankton culture directly to the aquarium and another portion into a Plankton Reactor to support a culture of zooplankton for the feeding of fish and invertebrates seeking a larger meal.

The Plankton Reactor is an identical 2.5 liter cultivation unit to the Plankton Light Reactor, without the light. When you supply the Plankton Reactor with phytoplankton from the Plankton Light Reactor and an air bubble source, you can double the number of rotifers in a culture in as little as four days. Rotifers (Brachionus) are an excellent small zooplankton food source and a common zooplankton used in this second stage culture. Using a second Plankton Reactor you can feed a portion of your rotifers into a third culture of larger zooplankton or 'pods to further enhance your ability to supply natural food items from across the food web, on demand.
