![]() I have one,
and it is a ravenous beast from hell. She will turn on me in a blink of any eye. She's not as bad with me as she is with my girlfriend. She attacks my girlfriend daily when she gets to close to me, or hugs me. to sum it up, she is extremely possesive....and crazy. and smells awful. But i love her? |

![]() Great dogs but they have their ways for sure. We have had at least one for the last 25 yrs. "Weenie", {ya, that was his name}, was 17 when he passed in my wifes arms. There is a thread on him someplace here and on our new guy.
Very possessive as mentioned. And remember they were once bred to hunt badgers, so they can be aggressive. One of ours had minor back problems but we have been lucky with that so far. I have no idea how you keep them from jumping, etc. They are a flying bundle of energy. Also as mentioned, watch their weight close. Thats a major cause of the back problems. And like most dogs, they will eat until they explode. {Funny my female dobie never did that, I think its a male thing, ![]() They love to crawl under the covers to sleep. Get cold very easy. ![]()

![]() I had a Daschund growing up for 16 years (our 1st dog), he was an awesome dog as well I had another one that I rescued from someone for a while and re-homed him. The one thing about them is they are very stubborn (as with most hounds) they are a lot smarter than they let on as well. Alot of them seem to have "selective hearing" they know what you want them to do but just don't seem to care, they are very food motivated but watch with the treats as the last thing you want is for them to get fat, back problems are a big problem if you don't watch their weight (due to their length)
My brother (Spanky on here) has two mini's at the moment so I'm sure he'll chime in here eventually with some pictures too. My brothers two daschys are totally different in personality, you couldn't get two more different dogs that are the same breed. Some Quirky things that I found almost all of them like. - love to be as hot as possible, under blankets in bed, laying in clothes out of the dryer, laying on/beside heat registers. - for some reason a lot of them like when you lay on the floor on your back and blow on their neck (wierd I know, but I've seen at least 6 that love this) - love to jump off of things, even though they shouldn't be allowed to due so. - The one I rescued could play ball 24/7, and when you stopped playing with him he would bury the ball in a planket himself and try to find it. They can be really wonderful dogs, a pretty big package in a tiny body, lots of personality. Sounds like you have a German Shepherd barking behind the door only to find this little rat once you get in. One thing to keep in mind is that they are hunters (rodents, badgers) etc. so if you have pet hamsters or birds or anything, keep them away, instinct always prevails (I speak from experience) All in all I think you will have fun with the little one, hounds are definatly different in their own right, but they can be wonderful pets. Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions, I'm sure Lance (spanky) will post some pic's of his guys when he gets a chance. Elliot |

![]() thanks guys/gals for the the responses. Jacqueline (my friend) should be here within the hour...STOKED!
It seems as though I'll have two stubborn dogs on my hands when Oscar comes. I guess a pluss out of getting a dog who's two is that he's already house broken, knows basic commands (whether or not he listens to them will be interesting) and for the last month has been living with 2 german shepards (who have now gone to live with Jaquelines Mom and Dad, who owned them first....kind of confusing)
