The nice part about owning small dogs is that raw feeding is much more affordable. Having a large dog means that ground meats won't suffice, as big dogs need the chunks of meat in order to get enough chewing power to properly activate salivary glands, which means a much higher cost per pound. When I moved to Kelowna, I couldn't find a decent source for affordable raw meats, and I was spending about $6-12 per day for my dog's food. I bit the bullet and switched her onto ultra grade kibble, which was very disheartening, but there does not appear to be any difference in her health or coat. As much as I will preach "no grains" to anyone who will listen, my dog needs a very small amount of grains in order to keep weight on. Otherwise she eats an abnormally large amount. It is quite weird how a small amount of rice will beef her right up, and I mean muscle, not fat. She is also more active when she has those grains. However, too much grains and holy moly stinky farts!!! *barf* |

Thanks! She is doing so very well. Has never really been outside so getting her to "do her business" outside is a real challenge, but we are at about 50% success rate :P. Past that its regular puppy antics, teething and being underfoot. I think she will be a great dog. I will try and get a pic of all of them together.

hahaha, good luck.
you guys are raw fooders huh? I admit, raw's the best for an animal (as nature intended), but I don't think that a good quality kibble is detrimental to your dog. This can be a pretty hot button issue for some though, so good luck with your new pal no matter how you decide to fatten it up. |

Also raw isn't always a viable option unfortunately. Not to mention good kibble is hard to find...Anways as not to highjack any further, I'll start a new thread in the lounge so we can keep discussing it.
I second the request for more photos, group shots, or singles, I'm good either way. I love min-pins. I wanted one, but got a fantastic dog instead from the humane society. Rescue stories always make me happy. |
