thnx for all the help guys. i actually just found a spot out east that was 98.00 for a 50 lb box and only 20 for shipping. had a friend from out there check it out and it is nice looking, very porous. should be here within a week then i can start cycling my tank.

I say go for the stuff www.bulkreefsupply.com has. Even if it works out to $5/lb (and it does) you have to remember that it is DRY WEIGHT, so 50 lbs of dry base rock is WAAAAY more rock than 50 lbs of wet live rock, so the savings is quite a lot. Also be aware that it will take several months for the dry base rock to blend in with the live rock.

i'm setting up a 160 g right now and may have some extra base left , a while back i got mine from ocean aquatics for 1-2$/lb , it was wet though ,

but i did score a nice 25lb piece that i could never afford if it was in the live tank

I have about 50 or 60 lbs kicking around in my basement (in water, circulating in a rubbermaid)
