Default Thanks so much ... and a few questions :)

Hello Kevin,
I was in yesterday to pick up my first batch of live rock for my future seahorse tank. I have a couple of questions that have come up since then.

1) I am not sure what I should do as far as the canister filter setup. I have a Rena XP2 right now, so what would you recommend putting in it for best results with the seahorses??

2) Should l have the filter running right now with the live rock in the tank, or is it okay on it's own for now??

3) Do you recommend a protein skimmer for a seahorse tank? It is a 45 gallon tank and will be very lightly stocked for the first while. Even when I get the seahorses it will be a max of two pairs. I have been looking at the AquaC Remora skimmer but I'm just not sure if it's necessary to have right now...

I think there was another question but I can't think of it now! I may be writing back again... Oh, you had thought you might get in some black sand, any luck there? I may be in the area tomorrow and could pick it up...

Thank you so much for all your help, it is very comforting to have a friendly, knowledgeable person (You and Doug both) to help in this exciting endeavor!!

RedCoral-Seahorses require very little flow and low nitrates. I think the xp2 has 3 chambers I would fill the bottom 2 with Live Rock rubble and the top one with a bagged Rowa Phos or Rowa Carbon

RC-Yes minus the bagged Rowa Phos or Rowa Carbon

RC- Yes but I am not confident in the AquaC

RC-We dont and can't get straight black sand yet; just black and white mixed sand.

Thanks
