Anyways, not wanting to jump into that debate... but President Bush has done more for the oceans then any other world leader in History, which really does contradict with his thoughts on offshore oil drilling. He's also spent more on combatting A.I.D.S. in Africa then any other president, his "no child left behind" programs have had a tremendous effect on literacy, particularly in poorer regions of the southern U.S. He's done some really good things with his time.

It will be interesting to see how history judges him 20 years down the road.
I agree, most people have no idea of some of the good he has done because its so easy to focus on the bad. Now he has not been a very good president for the US or the world for that matter and I am certainly not defending him but as you said, he has done some pretty amazing things.

This one is huge. Its been something like 140 years since the first National Park (Yellowstone) in the US and never has any marine location been given the same respect and protection. Now he has not only created the first Marine National parks but they are huge at that...they restrict fishing, drilling, ect. and happen to protect many large shark populations.

Its easy to say he has done this to save face but its not just that...little know fact about Bush is that he quite the "ocean lover" and always has been. Apparently he has always had a great fascination and love for the ocean and its creatures. But again, we usually just hear about his apparent love for war

Man I was just reading this again and realized I hate how supportive I sound of Bush...

Well, if guilt makes one do things which are good for the world, that good is still a good, no matter what the motivation. A goal is a goal, and really doesn't matter if it dribbled in off the tender's fingers, or was a brilliant strike from midfield. (Love soccer)

Where am I going with this?

What Bush did for the world's oceans a few weeks back was an act of incredible
sensitivity, even if he did it to cover up 8 years of a White House Ponzi scheme to confuse taxpayer citizen's. The protective measures are an incredible goal for the u.S., no matter the reason it got there.

BUT. Read the attached. What a disgusting man, even if only part of these things are true. As facts emerge, he is trying to cover up 8 years of wrongdoings (torture, Abu Graib, lies about how strong domestic Iraq securities forces are becoming, uranium in Africa which was the final straw to invade Iraq and which is now known to be an utterly open and disgusting lie, and so on).

The Ponzi scheme? Keep spending taxpayer money to finance these lies, and tell the American public that democracy and world peace are their return on investment. But when no more money can be borrowed, the truth comes out. Always does.

Sorry about the rant...I just hate how I sounded in that last post

i started this thread to inform guys of what happened in the usa about the protection of reef landscape, and seems everyone has focused on bush and his wrong doings over the last 2 terms, not that i am one to dismiss the fact that he was probably in my opinion the worst USA president ever, the fact that he actually did some good as he was leaving office is impressive. But then again this was his last stand, he have 8 other years to do good things and did very little cept make the USA poor over war, and blow the world economy to nothing.
If he had done something as good as this every month of his 8 years we all would be better off in the long run.

As for the new president oboma, he better go green!

Oh....Whoops. Sorry Doug

I actually just thought that was a RC uptight rule Never even crossed my mind that in a more liberal Canadian forum it would be a big deal.

I guess I should actually READ the rules sometime.

Hey no problem. You guys were just getting close to the line
Actually except for maybe RDO, most other boards are the same. Political & religious discussion always ends in a heated argument, which really has no place on an aquarium board.

For anyone wishing to argue those topics, for whatever reason, on a reefing board, {I know thats not this thread}, give the sump on RDO a go. Actually RC even created its own board for that purpose, but it got so bad I think they closed it.

And I would guess there are boards out there, for discussing those topics, { discussing, , now thats a laugh}.

Anywho, like most of the other reefing boards, we just dont wish to moderate those types of threads or have to make decisions on our members after they get into a heated argument and name calling session.
