![]() Don't worry Christy, there was 5 of us engineers sitting in the office on the boat BSing. I was on the internet and there was anouncement that the electritions were going to be flicking power on and off to find a short. 3 of the guys in the office jump up and start shutting off the laptops and telling us to save our work...
Boy did I have fun for the next 3 days after seeing that LOL Steve

![]() Haha, no I'm not scared. My brother gave me an old laptop and I thought I'd set it up for my aquatronica instead of using my desktop computer just in case the crapola hit the fan here weatherwise. I'm off to my parents place for a few days and nobody is watching the tank while I'm gone. Its just a "in case" measure to check up on things. Since I'm only an hour away I can race back home if needed. However my desktop doesn't power back on after a power outage so I could race back here only to find the power was out for like 5 minutes or something

![]() You can acutally just setup the desktop to turn back on when the power comes back on (BIOS setting - hit delete when starting up). However usually laptop's can't be setup to power on. So if the power goes out longer than the battery can last, you're in trouble. I'd test the battery life on the laptop, if it is a few years old you might only get 10 minutes or so.
Of course, it would always be nice to be able to text message a cell phone in case of power outage, my computer with a UPS sends an sms message to me if my house power goes out ![]() |

Perfect, I'll just do that then, so much easier as the laptop is kind of crusty and I don't think it even makes it through a movie on the battery. Thanks! ![]()

![]() I am a Marine Engineering Technician. but the navy's version so its hard to describe. as a general comparison I can walk into a class 3 power engineer ticket and challenge my 2nd class. or if I say with Marine I can just walk into a class 2 job, but I don't want to stay marine after I retire.
