[quote=tgoeujon;353246]anyone have any experience with a niger in a reef tank. thinkin

IMO they are reef safe especially when they are small. You better have a huge tank though as they grow to 18 inches.

Here is the comment on triggers by Rober Fenner

My advice (the garbage mail of conversation?) is self-evident: stick with the smaller, more peaceful genera Rhinecanthus and Sufflamen triggers unless you have a HUGE system with TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH tankmates to go along with the big and bad species. Sure, they may seem cute and easygoing enough at the dealers when they’re small, but they do get as large as I’ve listed here, and often "mean" along with growth

Your 55 gal listed in your signature will not be enough space for very long. They love to swim and need lots of room.

If you are going to get one, get shrimp first if you want them. Adding shrimp after the trigger usually doesn't work as they see them as food rather then another aquarium inhabitant.

I've had a niger in my reef tank with shrimp and corals and never had a problem. I think it really depends on their (the fish's) temperment.
