To anyone with plate coral expertise
My plate corals have finally finished trying to sit on each other but now a new problem.
One of the plate corals in the tank is lifting her skirt Not sure it makes sense but to be more exact I can see the white skeleton all the way around ever since I added a pistol shrimp to the tank. I think by digging around under it, it got annoyed or something. Will this heal up eventually or is it on the decline?

i have moved my plate coral and ripped it a few times, and when my conch gets too close he can rip it. but i find if you feed it a lots afterward it will recover. mines never been that bad, seems like the skeleton is showing from all sides. looks like whats called a "bail out" for certain types of corals, usually caused by a last ditch effort to get away from unhealthy water conditions. i'm not sure if plates do that or not thought. whats your water like and have you been feeding it?

Water is in tip top shape, It's on Zeo, tested this morning , all is great. All other corals are doing great but my pistol shrimp was digging around under it for a while but has moved on to a bigger fort now.
 I don't spot feed it but it gets plenty of mysis because I make a point of feeding over it so a few make it on to it.

do you have a goby for your pistol? and have you tried giving him a little PVC home? sometimes that can keep them in just one spot. and target feed the coral every 2-3 days and it should recover.

Yup, he's got a goby (Randall's) and he has made a permanent home under the rocks finally (with his little buddy) but now the damage is done!
 I'll start feeding him tomorrow and see how it goes... Thanks!

no problem, plates and pistols, two of my favorites for saltwater.
 plate corals are one of the few "walking corals" and the goby shrimp pair is pretty much unbeatable for a smaller tanks IMO. good luck, hope your plate makes it.

I wish I could actally see this walking thing! It was happening for almost a month, I'd wake up to find the green one (pictured) sitting on top of the purple one and I thought nothing of if til it happed 3-4 times so I thought it was the current so I switched them and the same thing happened, that's when I figured it wasn't the current!
I ended up having to put a rock between them and that fixed the problem!

well technically walking for plates is one of the things that is best you never see. happy plate corals don't need to move.

it's receding, not a good sign. If you have something irritating it then you could try moving it elsewhere. Feed it too and that should help.
