I saw a show on CBC, I think Market Place and they tested all 4 carriers extreme high speed.

1. Rogers
2. Shaw
3. Telus
4. Bell.

They tested by downloading a file from the CBC (huge like 2 GB) all at the same time.

They found Bell to be the worst ....... they could not reach anywhere near the speed that they advertised. They found that Rogers was the fastest and Shaw & Telus were pretty close with each other and just a bit off from Rogers.

Cheers,
Vic

For internet your only choices for fast internet are shaw and telus, you cant listen to anyone outside of alberta on this either since rogers and bell are not hard providers. Rogers and bell run off the cell phone network here. I like shaw but have no reason to support them over telus. so either of those are your best choice.

I dont have the option for Rogers in alberta. its a nice little monoply they have going. split the country right up the middle. Shaw on the west coast and rodgers on the east coast. id like to bundle my cell tv internet and cable but alas rodgers only has wireless in western canada.

I think the speed tested is pretty accurate, but for me, the customer support variable should factor in as well... hopefully you don't need to call, but when you do, I HATE getting the run around!

Was there any comparison done on that show? I can only speak to about my ISP and it's not that great... hit and miss depending on the tech on the call.

Shaw for customer service, but Telus may have a very slight edge in speed. I am with Shaw, and would never consider going back to Telus because of their crappy customer service. I also have Shaw phone and love it!

If you're looking for just internet, get a package with Shaw. The Xtreme-I is 10mbit, and when bundled with a basic VOIP phone you're looking at about $65/month.

When I used to have telus, I had a supposed 5mbit line. I could only download PER STREAM at 160k/sec, but get multiple streams going and I could get close... Not sure if they changed that now-a-days
