![]() I put 3/4 cup in my PhosBan Reactor on my 33g... Don't try that at home kids.
![]() I can't say how well it works yet, but I can say WOW IT'S CLEAN!!!! Hardly any dust at all when compared to RowaPhos and PuraPhos. It is also way heavier as I can throttle my MJ400 up to full flow and there are no little pieces making it out of the reactor. I do have it throttled back so the GFO is VERY gently fluttering on the top though. I will update in a week when I see how it's doing. Last edited by Myka; 05-28-2008 at 04:01 AM. |

![]() Just following up on your post. How did the BRS high capacity GFO compare to the other phospate medias?

![]() I split that order with Myka and I really like it. I was using Seachem before and now I realize how crappy a job it was doing. I don't use the quantities that she uses though...just 4 heaping teaspoons but my Po4 dropped when I just couldn't get the Seachem to drop it any more.

![]() Haha! Ya, some update in a week I did!!!
![]() I think the BRS HC GFO works at least as well as the RowaPhos, maybe a bit better, and it seems to last quite a bit longer too. I would recommend it to anyone. ![]() |

![]() Oh sure, scare people off!!!
I think 1 mL of RowaPhos is about 1 gram. If that is right then the BRS HC GFO 453g for $39 is close to the RowaPhos 500mL for $45. PLUS, once you've ordered 3 times and done 3 product reviews for BRS you become a Preferred Customer, and the prices go down. ![]() |

![]() Rowaphos sells on J&L for $76.95 for 1 L plus tax which would make it 76.95+9.24= $86.19
Bulk Reef Supply High Capacity Granular Ferric Oxide sells for $360 USD for 16 lbs. You could buy more than that or less than that also but for me I'd probably go with 16 lbs at a time. Now if we go through the checkout at Bulk Reef Supply: tax to cover the duties and brokerage fees is 15% plus $40.94 for shipping will give us $454.94 USD. Converting that to CAD with todays exchange would be $564.58 CAD for 16 lbs Now to make them both the same units... 16 lbs is 7.3 kg so we can divide $564.58 by 7.3 and we get $77.34 for 1 L BRS HGFO $77.34 Rowaphos $86.19 However rowaphos can also be purchased for +/- $300 for 5 kg from J&L but its not listed on their website. My guess is that after you gain a little more cost savings by purchasing the 5 kg of rowaphos the prices will be even closer. I've stocked up on enough Rowaphos during J&Ls boxing day sale to last me at least a year but I'm curious to maybe try the BRS stuff next year.

![]() Quote:
According to the label I should be using 8 tablespoons of GFO which should last 2 months. Maybe this will finally solve my algae issue.

![]() RowaPhos is the wet stuff, right? I Used Rowa initially when I got my reactor, but this time I ordered Phosban from OA. Not even thinking. The Phos id dry, and alot less rinsing I noticed that the Rowa. But, does it work the same, and how does Phosban compare to BRS GFO?

![]() I emailed J&L a little while ago about adding the 5 kg bucket of rowaphos to their website and they did. So now I know the price. After tax and with free shipping rowaphos would be $29.53 per pound if you purchase the 5 kg bucket for $324.80
Converted another way the HCGFO from BRS will be about (depends on exchange rate) $35.29 per pound for a $564.58 16 lbs bucket... Or if you really want the big 40 lbs bucket of HCGFO you'll pay $30.60 per pound. Thats ($820x1.15+$77.15)x1.2=1224.18/40lbs=$30.60/lbs Rowaphos is cheeper. ![]()
