I've done live shipments using Westjet and Air Canada.

Westjet was great. They gave me a flight number and the live cargo showed up as planned.

Air Canada lost the shipment twice and it finally showed up 18 hours late. It was a royal pain because they had no idea where the parcel was and which flight it would arrive on. I went to the airport the second time to pick it up and was told it hadn't left Vancouver yet. When I got back home from the airport I got a call saying it had been sitting in Calgary all morning. The problem is not all their fleet has pressurized cargo areas so live cargo can be moved to another flight because the flight it was booked on changes to non-pressurized. They didn’t have a clue when it would arrive until it showed up in Calgary which makes it a real hassle to pickup.

Three trips across the city to the airport and all worked out in the end.

If ordering live cargo again I would choose a vendor that uses Westjet.

I agree that Air Canada sucks as I've had problems with them too. I also know of many, many others that have their own horrible stories about AC. I had always had great service with WJ, never a problem but now that their policy has changed I can't ship through them. They're also cheaper than Air Canada.

Whenever I've ordered live goods from J&L it has all come in on aircanada, no complaints.

The main problem I have found with AC is that if you are not in the flight with the animals they will constantly get bumped. I had a baby parrot that showed up 14 hours late as they kept delaying shipping him due to the flights being full, luckily the guy in cargo stayed 3 hours late and waited for him to come in, if not he would probably have died as was was still being handfed. Someone else that I know had their parrot left on the runway in -30 weather, so needless to say you know the outcome of that situation, and I personally will never use them again.
