The skimmer will clear up your water to some extent (and likely better than the coralife if you go with a different brand). However running carbon as well will help with clearer water

I wonder if the yellow water is just a result of the bulbs you're using. Some give off a pretty yellow tint.
I have a Deltec MCE600 and it works like a champ. Granted, it's probably too much skimmer for my system, but....I'm a believer in "more is more" when it comes to skimming. But you could easily get away with the MCE300.
