I think you didn't get very many responses because most of us love tanks too much to submit another reefer to the pain that this skimmer puts people through. I have one...no surface attachement though. Spent 2 years trying to dial it in...never could...even the local LFS gave up.

people hate prizms and pc's(power compact fluorescents) it seems...lol
I have had great experiences with both of them though if you're looking to spend as much money as you can; they are not for you.

My 36 was STOCKED, I had a really heavy bioload and I was emptying my prizm at least once every 2 days of some thick, nasty blck brown stuff.
sometimes it was so thick I had to scrape it off with a knife to empty it.

to me, thats a good skimmer.

I had a prism pro for a couple of years and finicky is a bit of an understatement.
The first week after it was cleaned it would overflow the collection cup and dump gallons of water on the floor everytime my back was turned. The second week it would skim like a champ as long as it didn't lose its suction. The third week i would barely get any skimmate at all (but at least it didn't flood my floor) and would need to be cleaned which brought me right back to week one .

That does sound good. I don't get that out of my $500 Tunze 9015, but I just didn't have the luck you have with that Prizm.

I just meant that mine was finicky because it was hard to adjust but once we got it adjusted it worked absolutely fine. However, I am thinking I just got lucky as I have heard lots of bad about these skimmers on here and elsewhere on other forums.

Well, after getting all this information, i think i'll try to find a Remora or a Tunze nano intead. I'll start a new thread. Thanks a lot for the comments.

lol, what have a done? my experience was in the extremely finicky group. only very rarely did it ever perform half decently. Chipie, I am glad you decided to go for a remora or tunze. I hear the remora is good enough for what it costs; imo the tunze is a great skimmer... not the very very best, but pretty good.

LOL you did good. I'm not a very experienced reefer so any advice i greatly appreciated. Thanks

I imagine a deltec hob would probably be better but out of my price range unfortunatly.
