The tank looks like it should work, but I'm just not sure what to do the the hole(bulkhead)? Can it be easily plugged, as I don't want to buy a powerhead to get the water back into the system?

Bulkhead could be capped, removed and hole patched (small glass plate and some silicone) or just left as is, as the overflow is water tight.
