Default Refugium q's

What is best to keep in a fuge? Algaes? Pods? LR?
I hope to start building my sump next weekend and need to have an idea of space for the fuge.

I like to keep Chaeto in the fuge. It will absorb nutrients, and nurture pods.

Live rock I like to keep in the sump.

I'd agree with Myka that chaeto is very good, and does a great job of hosting pods. You could add a deep sand bed in there as well, depending on your opinion of them. I know this will create debate, but do some reading on the pros and cons of them. Live rock can just be kept in the sump, or in the same place as the refugium.

Oh as far as sand goes, I like Miracle Mud or something similar...around 2-3".

My plan is to DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. THat is why I asked the question. I know that many things in the aquarium hobby are...or should I say "were"... all trial and error. But thanks to the web and forums such as this one, it is much easier to learn from other keepers experience (aka mistakes ).

Today a buddy called me offering a FREE 90 g tank (w00t)...so my newly set up 55 reef tank may get recycled to be a sump...with a good size fuge!!!
